Ensign Chekov was a navigator on board the USS Enterprise. He would be the one responsible for plotting a course for the warping ship, while partner, Hikaru Sulu would engage the warp engines. Chekov would always act innocent, especially when he and Scotty started a fight with the Klingons on board station K-7. He would also be responsible for introducting the troublesome Tribbles to the Enterprise crew, which he and Uhura would buy from Cyrano Jones.

Chekov wasn't always innocent. He was also tortured by Khan Noonien Singh, when he and Captain Terrel stumble upon the old criminal, while searching for a test site for a project called Genesis. Put under the Ceti Eels, which makes people render any suggestions from the master, he would go through extreme pain.

Chekov was also tried, but cleared of charges for his involvment in the rescue of his comrade, Captain Spock from the now-extinct Genesis planet.
