SPACE THE FINAL FRONTIER. THESE ARE THE VOYAGES OF THE STARSHIP ENTERPRISE... ITS CONTINUING MISSION TO EXPLORE STRANGE NEW WORLDS. TO SEEK OUT NEW LIFE FORMS AND NEW CIVILIZATIONS. TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO ONE HAS GONE BEFORE...
Welcome to the informative Star Trek The Next Generation site...
This site contains informative information to the successful sequel to the '60's classic
television show. Under syndication, the show immediately garnered success, even though the early
seasons were likened to the stories of the original stories, especially "The Naked Now". Even going through a season
truncation to twenty two episodes due to the 1988 Writers' Guild strike in their sophomore year.
But the seasons beyond that proved to be a ratings winner and thus remained until the seventh
season, to venture into the feature film stream. Judging by the success of the Next Generation,
the show could've gone on beyond eight years if it could and wait for the movies later.
Enjoy!
ABOUT STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION
The first Star Trek series to air in syndication, immediately garnered success all around the
world, with 177 episodes, seven seasons and two feature films. The yearning for more television
adventures was finally accepted by Paramount and thus Gene Roddenberry began to create his second
television series, while continuing to be an executive consultant to the continuing feature
films. The second series would be a sequel to the original series that would feature a whole new
cast, and a whole new aliens. The setting would be the twenty-fourth century, a century after the
original crew, and thus a Klingon would also join the crew, as the Klingons are now allies with
the Federation. The first two seasons were not successful, with the second season truncated down
to twenty-two episodes due to the 1988 Writers Guild strike. But the seasons after that were a
resounding success, with generation gapping episodes as "Unifications", where it featured Spock
from the original series, and "Relices" in which Scotty is rescued from a transporter loop. In
1994, Paramount decided to cancel the series for the long-awaited feature film, thus when
"Generations" premiered in 1994, it
received little reception and a dislike in the film for being too broody. The next feature film,
"First Contact", which premiered in 1996,
was a resounding success as it featured the Borg as a storyline. Now in its tenth year, the crew
will be reunited for their third film, "Insurrection" due to begin filming March 1998, and the ninth in the feature
film franchise.
