COUNSELOR DEANNA TROI

Counselor Troi is the Enterprise's ship counselor. As a Betazed, an alien race who has the capability to read human thoughts and emotions, her skills are a required criteria for the starship captain. She is half-Betazoid which means her telepathic skills are limited in capacity. Nonetheless, her capabilities have been used to good faith, although sometimes occuring just after the accident, such as the accident that killed Marla Aster, an archaeologist, in the "The Bonding".

Not only can she read human minds, but that of alien beings, as seen on the pilot episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", "Encounter At Farpoint" where she read an aliens pain and anger for being enslaved. Although she is a counselor, she has a difficult time when her mother, Lwaxana Troi, who encompasses great sexual needs, comes aboard. However, she's had more of a sexual encounter herself, when Devonini Ral, played by Matt McCoy, comes aboard and when she learns that he too is Betazoid in "The Price". She also had her telepathic ability's stripped in "Night Terrors". Deanna also got to don on a Starfleet uniform when Captain Jellico took command in the "Chains Of Command" two-parter.
