WHO IS KHAN?
While stuck on Regula, Saavik continuously tries to
contact the Enterprise, as Commander Chekov recovers from his injuries. However, it is no good.
The Reliant is still jamming all transmissions. Doctor McCoy points out that if the Enterprise
had followed orders, they wouldn't be in this situation. But they are, as David Marcus points
out. Carol doesn't any of this and demands to know who is Khan. Kirk explains that it is a long
story. David reminds the Admiral that they appear to have plenty of time. Seeing the perfect
opportunity to break out of this tension, Kirk asks everyone if they're hungry. McCoy is
incensed, "How can you think of food at a time like this?" Kirk points out that their
first order of business is survival. Carol soon explains that Genesis has food that can last a
lifetime if necessary. McCoy is perplexed as he thought that this was Genesis, but Carol
explains that Starfleet's Corp of Engineer spent months tunneling this cave. Carol soon asks
David to show the Lieutenant and Dr. McCoy her idea of food. David just doesn't want to sit
around, but Kirk reminds him that they can't do anything about that.

OLD, WORN OUT
Before Lieutenant Saavik leaves, she asks the Admiral
about their rescue possibilities. Kirk points out that, just like her teacher, Mr. Spock, he'd
like to think that there always are possibilities. After Lt. Saavik, Dr. McCoy and David Marcus
leaves, Kirk and Carol reminisce. Kirk wants to know why Carol didn't tell David about him.
Carol tells him how can he ask her that, after he left her for Starfleet. She then reminds him
that they were together, or at least they were going to be, after the Admiral ran off. She then
bemuses that David is a lot like Kirk, actually. Feeling the sadness in Kirk, Carol asks how
he's feeling. Kirk then tell her that there's a man whom he hasn't seen in fifteen years and
that he's trying to kill him. He would like it if his son would show some happiness in helping
his father. He then tells her that he has no feelings. He's old and worn out. Realizing the
breadth of his statement, Carol simply says, "Let me show you something, that'll make you
feel young as one the world would knew." She then points toward the Genesis cave.

WHERE IS SHE?
While on Regulus, Carol leads Kirk to the Genesis Planet.
Meanwhile, on the Reliant, Khan is told that their impulse generators have been repaired, which
will be more than a match for the poor Enterprise. Carol leads Kirk through the long tunnels
toward the Genesis planet, which comes to full view once the tunnel ends. Kirk is awed at the
sight of this remarkable planet, and is feeling rejuvenated. He is incredibly taken by this
sight and remarks, "It did this in a day?" Carol explains that the matrix formed within a
day and that the plants and vegetation grew at an accelerated rate. Even McCoy is excited with
the planet who shouts, "Jim, isn't this incredible. Have you ever seen a planet like
this?" Carol soon asks if she can cook, or can't she. Back in space, the Reliant comes in to
attack the Enterprise. When she arrives at Regula Lab, the Enterprise isn't there. Khan is
shocked as he asks, "Where is she?" The Enterprise has outsmarted the genetically
enhanced.
HE CHEATED
While munching on the snack provided by Carol Marcus, Lt.
Saavik approaches the Admiral and asks him a question. The Admiral's instinct kicks in and
knows what the Lieutenant will be asking, and asks her if she is asking him about the Kobayashi
Maru scenario. Dr. McCoy reminds the lieutenant that the Admiral is the only cadet ever to beat
the no-win scenario. When Saavik asks how, the Admiral tells them that he reprogrammed the
scenario so that it was possible to rescue the ship. A bemused David implies that the Admiral
cheated. The Admiral reminds his son that he just changed the condition of the test. He soon
tells them that he got a commendation for original thinking. Saavik is shocked as the Admiral
never faced that situation, but faced death. Kirk doesn't believe in the no-win scenario. Kirk
soon whips out his communicator and contacts Spock, who luckily responds, much to the
Lieutenant's surprise. "Spock, it's two hours, are you ready?" Spock replies that they
are right on schedule, and asks the Admiral for their co-ordinates so that they can beam them
over. Kirk then informs the young bewildered Vulcan that he doesn't like to loose.

I EXAGGERATED
As the landing party beams over, Lt. Saavik is still
curious as how the Enterprise was able to contact them, when the Reliant was supposedly jamming
transmission. Kirk reminds the young cadet that she should remember the book. Dr. Carol soon
greets Spock, while Dr. McCoy takes Chekov to Sickbay. Kirk further elaborates Saavik's
curiousity by stating that if transmissions are monitored, they should use discreet method while
communicating, which means that hours could be minutes, and minutes could be hours. Saavik then
responds by saying that no-one coded an open transmission during their transmission. She
realizes that Spock lied to them, to which Spock only responds, "I exaggerated." After
putting on their normal uniforms, they head for the Bridge, but Spock informs them that the
Turbolifts are out below C-Deck. Kirk asks what is working around here, and Spock reports that
they only have partial main power. Kirk is alarmed, and Spock reports that that was the best
they could do in two hours.
THE ODDS WILL BE EVEN
Admiral Kirk, Lt. Saavik and Captain Spock arrive on the
Bridge, and the Admiral immediately orders battlestations. He also orders the Tactical up on
the viewer. He can see that the Reliant can still outrun and outgun them. Spock soon informs
the Admiral that there is a Mutara-class nebula nearby. The Admiral orders Scotty to restart
the engines, but Scotty cautions the Admiral that the engines are still overrun, and that he
may not be able to give them a smooth ride. Saavik reminds the Admiral that the nebula is
filled with static discharge, that will render both the shields and tactical useless. Spock
reminds the lieutenant, that by going into the nebula will even the odds.

RED ALERT
As the crew of the Enterprise prepare for their encounter
with Khan, the Enterprise slowly limps out of orbit of Regulus, as it gives it enough time to
load all the torpedo bays. On board the Reliant, Khan is bored and restless, until, out of the
corner of his eyes, he sees the Enterprise limping out of orbit. "There she is, there she
is. Not so wounded as we were led to believe, so much the better." Soon, the Reliant powers
ahead of the Enterprise and follows their path toward the nebula. On the Bridge of the
Enterprise, Spock reports that they will reach the nebula in two-point-one minutes and warns
that the Reliant is approaching. On board the Reliant, Joachim realizes that they are heading
into the Mutara Nebula, and informs this to his superior officer, "They go in there, we'll
lose them." Khan orders Joachim to explain it to the Enterprise and Joachim soon fires a
warning shot at the Enterprise.

LAUGHING AT THE SUPERIOR
INTELLECT
On board the Enterprise, Saavik is relieved when the
torpedo didn't cause serious harm. The Admiral informs the Lt. that it was just a warning shot
to make them not go in the nebula. Soon, David Marcus comes onto the Bridge to give his father a
helping hand. On the Reliant, Khan notices that they are slowing and asks Joachim why. Joachim
explains that because they are following them into the nebula, it is causing the engines to slow
down. He then reminds Khan that their shields and tactical will be useless. On the Enterprise,
Spock reports that they are one-minute from the Mutara Nebula and that the Reliant is slowing.
Excited, Kirk orders Uhura to patch in a hailing frequency to the Reliant. When Uhura informs
the Admiral that he's on, Kirk smiles. "This is Admiral Kirk. We tried it once your way,
Khan, are you game for rematch. Khan, I'm laughing at your superior intellect." On the
Reliant, Khan is angry, and orders Joachim full power. Joachim protests, "No, sir! You have
Genesis, you can have whatever --" Khan angrily grabs Joachim and shouts, "Full
power!" He then shoves Joachim aside and engages the engines himself.
EMERGENCY LIGHT
As Kirk watches an angry Khan move toward them at full
speed, Spock reports that they are now entering the Mutura Nebula. The ship lurches thanks to
the static discharge from the nebula and the ship goes dark. Kirk orders "Emergency
lights," and they soon have minimal lighting. The Reliant also enters the nebula and slows
down drastically. The ship also lurches, and the Bridge goes dark, but Khan does not know about
the emergency lighting capability. He asks for the viewscreen on, but Joachim, recovered from
Khan's anger, reports that its non-functional. Khan orders for the shields and tactical and
Joachim reports the same. He then informs Khan that he's going to slow the ship down, much to
Khan's disappointment.
CAT AND MOUSE
Soon, both the Enterprise and the Reliant play a
cat-and-mouse game through the blindfolded Mutara Nebula. Both ships navigate blindly through
this static filled nebula. The Enterprise, however, soon comes up, upon the Reliant, from
behind. The gunner responds saying, "Target, sir." Sulu informs the Admiral that phaser
lock is inoperative and that they will be shooting blindly. Kirk orders Sulu to take a best
guess and orders him to fire phasers. As expected, the phasers altogether miss the Reliant, but
it does shake it mildly. On the Reliant, Khan orders the tactical officer to fire aft
torpedoes. The torpedo itself, misses the Enterprise, and soon, the two ship's continue to play
a cat-and-mouse game in the blinding nebula.
|
EVASIVE STARBOARD
After there first successive shot, the two ships are
blinded once again. Kirk orders Lt. Saavik to hold there course, and the Lieutenant complies.
The Enterprise comes to a dead stop as they await the viewscreen static to clear up. In fact,
the Reliant isn't far from their position at all. Soon, the viewscreen clears up a bit, and
Kirk instantly sees the shadow of the Reliant. Alarmed, Kirk orders the helmsman to evasive
starboard, to avoid a direct assault. The Reliant fires its deadly weapons at the Enterprise,
but it only hits the torpedo bay area. IT does, however, cause considerable damage. Once the
Reliant stops firing, Kirk orders the tactical officer to return fire. The Enterprise itself
inflicts heavy damage on the smaller vessel, ruining the ship's Bridge.

I SHALL AVENGE YOU
On the Enterprise, Khan's retaliation has caused far more
than damage than initially thought. McCoy enters Engineering to assist the wounded. Scotty
looks weak and just barely informs the Admiral that he has to take the mains offline, as it is
leaking radiation, which means that the main engines won't be available for a while. Scotty
then collapses, suffering a mild radiation poisoning. On the Reliant, Khan is also mopping up
the dessicated Bridge, thanks to the attack from the Enterprise. He sees Joachim piled under a
huge pillar from the Bridge's roof. He lifts the pillar from Joachim's body and throws it
aside. Joachim is too badly wounded to make a full recovery and mutters his last words,
"Your's, it's superior..." He then dies under Khan's arms. Khan vows that he will avenge
his death.
