THE
CHRISTENING CEREMONY
A champagne bottle is seen hurtling end over end of
endless space. At first the bottle is invisible, but the bottle slowly gets closer and closer,
until it smashes against the hull of a brand new ship. The proud USS Enterprise,
NCC-1701-B, the third ship to be named Enterprise, sits proudly in spacedock, ready for her
maiden voyage. The crew inside spacedock applauds her graceful style. |
THREE HONORED GUESTS
People watching the show applauds with enthusiam. Finally,
we see the Bridge of the Enterprise for the first time, as the turbolift doors open to reveal
bright flashy lights and futuristic camera's and as the journalists move back, they reveal the
three legendary officers from the previous Enterprise, Captain's Kirk and Scotty
and Commander Chekov. The three officers are soon thrown with a barrage of questions from
the journalists. They are especially keen to know how it feels for Kirk to be on the Bridge of
the Enterprise again, after thirty years. But before the journalists can ask further questions,
Captain John Harriman, a new and young captain of the Enterprise, interrupts them and
informs them that there will be plenty of time for questions later. The shy captain introduces
himself to the legends and Kirk is pleased to be here, even though his face does not think
so.
SULU AT THE HELM
He then asks if he can look around and the captain gladly
accepts Kirk offer. Chekov meanwhile has found someone familiar on the ship. Before Kirk look
around, he is thrown by few more questions, concerning his feeling about being onboard the ship
after so many years. He's happy to send his successor on her way. Another journalists suggest
giving the Captain some room so that he can marvel at the new ship to which the journalists
kindly does. Soon Kirk's eyes are about to go on the command chair, after so many years he's
missed sitting in it. Then, he is interrupted by his friend, Chekov, who introduces the captain
to Demora Sulu, the daughter of Hikaru Sulu. They've met before, but she was only
twelve then. She's become a fine young woman.
TAKE US
OUT!!!
Scotty is marvelled at the new ship and just how
technology has caught up. Kirk feels restless after seeing Demora and marvels at how just Sulu
managed to find the time to have a daughter, after serving so many years under him. Scotty then
uses his lousy psychiatrist tact and Harriman informs them they're ready to leave. Just before
they do, Harriman asks if Kirk would be honored to give the order to get under. With
reluctance, Kirk takes the majestic ship out to her voyage. |
QUICK RUN AROUND THE
BLOCK!
The ship sails proudly out of spacedock. Meanwhile, Kirk
and his friends are again barraged by the journalists, when Harriman informs the crew that they
have journeyed past the asteroid belt. He further informs the crew that their course will take
them out beyond Pluto and back, just a quick run around the block. Just then, the communications
officer informs them that they are being hailed by two transport ships. The science officer
informs the crew that the ships are two El-Aurian transport ships, transporting El-Aurian
reguees to Earth. Harriman orders it on speakers, terrified that he might have to rescue them
under a skeleton crew and not a fully manned vessel. The garbled message asks for their help and
it is clear by the voice, that they are indeed in trouble.
NO CONDITION!
The captain orders Sulu to locate the ship and after he's
been informed asks the navigator to contact the nearest ship as they are in no condition to
mount a rescue. Kirk is desperate to spring into action, due to his experience as a Starfleet
Officer, but knows that this isn't his ship. The navigator soon replies that they're the only
ship in range and possible for a rescue. Then reluctantly, Harriman orders Sulu to plot their
course.
ILL-PREPARED AND
HELPLESS!!!
When they come within visual range, Harriman orders the
viewscreen on. What they see, stuns the crew, as a vast and dangerous crackling ribbon of
energy tears through their space. Sulu soon reports that she has located the two ships, and
thus they watch helplessly as the two vessels are being tossed and turned inside the vast
phenomena. Soon, the Enterprise herself is being pulled inside the ribbon, due to gravimetric
distortions. Soon, Kirk suggests using the tractor beam, but the captain calmly tells him that
they don't have a tractor beam and won't be installed until Tuesday. Soon, Harriman tries
generating a subspace field around the ships, but due to the quantum interference, that doesn't
work. Venting plasma from the warp nacelles also doesn't work and soon, Harriman watches as one
of the El-Aurian ships explode, killing two-hundred sixty five people
on board. |
ASSISTANCE FROM OLD
FRIENDS
With time and decisions running out, Harriman turns to
Captain Kirk for his experienced advise. Kirk leaps into action and orders Harriman to move the
ship within transporter range. Harriman is worried about the gravimetric distortions, however
with Kirk's encouragement to risk your life as a Starship captain, Harriman orders the ship
closer. Soon, Kirk orders the journalists annoying lights turned off. The shaking gets worse and
soon Chekov asks Harriman how big the medical staff is. Harriman briskly tells him that they
won't arrive until Tuesday. Chekov volunteers himself and a few journalists as a fill-in medical
staff as they ready to help the stricken El-Aurians. The lieutenant soon announces that he can't
establish transporter lock and soon Scotty rushes over to assist the young lieutenant. Scotty
informs that they are phasing in-and-out of our spacetime continuum. Just as their hull
collapses, Scotty manages to beam forty-seven of one hundred fifty onboard.
MIRACLE NEEDED
Soon, the Enterprise herself, is being pulled into the
ribbon. Harriman orders full reverse, but the engines won't give, as it is being pulled against
its wishes. In Sickbay, the El-Aurian survivors are ecstatic about their recent encounter into
the ribbon. They are speaking gibberish and a journalist report that they are in neural shock.
One man, continously brags on about having to go back into the ribbon, until Chekov's hypospray
seduces him. He soon meets Guinan, a bartender of the future Enterprise and tries to
calm her. Back on the Bridge, the shaking intensifies and soon Scotty has found a way they
disperse this gravimetric distortion. An antimatter discharge directly ahead will do the job,
however since this Enterprise is not equipped with torpedoes, they must simulate the torpedo
blast using a resonance burst from the deflector dish. When Harriman decides he'll do the job,
Kirk is excited, once again the thought of taking command coming back to his mind. But, he
knows that this isn't his ship, thus he informs Harriman that his place is on the Bridge on the
Bridge of his ship. He soon volunteers and orders Scotty to keep things together until he gets
back. |
DEFLECTOR CONTROL
Kirk races down the corridors of Deck Fifteen to deflector
control to simulate the torpedo blast needed to get the huge ship out of this mess. The ship
continues to shake as he runs down the corridor. When he reaches Deflector control, he hurries
with his work. On the Bridge, the shaking intensifies and the structural integrity is ten
seconds away from structural collapse. Scott calls to Kirk who informs him that he doesn't know
how long he can keep the ship together. Soon Kirk completes his work and shouts, "That's it!
Let's go!" On the Bridge, Harriman orders the deflector dish on and soon the ship begins to
break free. However, before they clear the ribbon altogether, one last tendril strikes the
ship, near the deflector dish. |
DECK FIFTEEN
Once the ship clears the ribbon, Harriman asks for damage
report. Demora reports that there is some buckling on the starboard nacelle and that they have
a hull breach at section twenty through twenty-one, on decks thirteen, fourteen and fifteen.
Shock crosses Scotty's face as he tries to absorb the information. He soon tries to contact
Captain Kirk, but there is no response. Scotty orders Chekov to meet him at Deck Fifteen, while
he and Harriman heads for Deck Fifteen. When they arrive at deck fifteen, they find the room in
disarray, badly damage and a gapping hole seen in front of them. Soon Chekov comes running in
and realizes what has happened. He asks if anyone was in here, and Scotty solemly replies,
"Aye." The two have lost someone close to them... |
SEVENTY-EIGHT YEARS
LATER
Seventy-eight years later, we see a small frigate type
vessel float on top of the water. The vessel is "ENTERPRISE" clearly marked out in gold letters
at the bow of the ship. We also see Picard and Riker dressed in full naval
uniforms of the time. What's going on? Where's the Enterprise-D? We will soon learn in short
time. The ship comes to a halt and Riker yells out, "Bring out the prisoner!" We soon
learn that the prisoner is none other than Lt. Worf, chained up shackles and all. What's
the big occassion? |
ACCEPTING PROMOTION
Picard is happy and joyous as is Riker himself. Picard
informs Worf that his day has come and always knew that it would. He asks if he is prepared to
face the charges. Troi urges Worf to answer him. Worf announces he is prepared. Riker
soon begins reading an ancient scroll parchment. "We the crew of the USS Enterprise, being
of sound mind and judgement, hearby make the following charges against Lt. Worf. One - that he
did knowingly and willfully perform above and beyond the call of duty on countless occassions.
Two, that he has been a good and solid officer on this ship for one score less twelve years.
And three, most seriously, that he has earned the respect and admiration of the entire
crew." Picard soon announces that there can be only one type of punishment for this crime -
to promote Lt. Worf to the rank of Lt. Commander with all the rights and privilegdes thereto.
The crowd soon roars with approval as Worf accepts the promotion. |
