Business is going slow at Quark's. It is open hours and the last customer, Morn leaves. Soon Quark comes up with Rule of Acquisition #286, "When Morn Leaves, It's All Over." However, there is still one patron left, a drunken Klingon who demands more bloodwine. Rom tells Quark that he owes them a lot for tabs and the Klingon brawls, thus starting a brawl that ends with Klingon's death.

Bashir soon examines the dead Klingon, and a group of worried onlooker's watch. This is the perfect opportunity for Quark to gain back his business and earn respect. But Rom informs Quark that the dead Klingon's family may come looking for him and Quark could be killed himself. When Quark tells his brother that he will cut back all of his earnings, Rom blurts out that Quark killed him in self-defense. Soon Quark tells everyone how he killed the the Klingon, and the onlookers take his word for it. The crowd reacts to this news with surprise and Quark has successfully gained respect from the onlookers. Soon, O'Brien returns to his quarters, tired from today's work to find his wife napping away at a Bonsai tree. Keiko soon informs that she has closed the school today as the last Bajoran children left the station, thanks to the looming Dominion threat. O'Brien soon feels sorry for Keiko and she informs him that she didn't want to be a teacher for the rest of her life anyway. Odo soon watches Quark drinking up the profit from earning respect from the customers and soon entices him to tell the truth by telling Quark that he killed a man of great importance, with a history of tradition and honor. But Quark won't budge, as his story has earned back his business. While inside a narrow corridor, Quark is sidetracked by an angry Klingon, who tells Quark that he is the brother of the Klingon that he has killed.

The Klingon soon wants to know that if his brother's death was an accident or an honorable death and Quark blindly tells him that it was an honorable. The Klingon soon informs that it was an honorable death. The Klingon soon tells him that if it wasn't, Quark will soon meet his death. Meanwhile, O'Brien prepares dinner for Keiko to celebrate the day he married the most beautiful woman day. Although Keiko enjoys the meal, her mood remains the same throughout the day and O'Brien realizes that he must do something to cheer her up. Quark counts his daily profits and is visited by someone. She later reveals herself as Grilka, the husband of Kozak, the man killed in Quark's. She wants to reassure herself that her husband died in an honorable combat and not cowardly. She later realizes that Quark is a coward after all, when she pulls a d'k tagh knife on him. Grilka later tells him that her husband used up all of their houses wealth and squandered them and wants Quark's help. Quark would be glad to, and Grilka immediately sedates him and beams off the station. Later, Quark wakes up on Kronos, the Klingon homeworld. A bizarre ritual soon takes place and Quark realizes that a wedding ceremony has taken place. He is now Grilka's husband by law.

O'Brien soon visits Sisko concerning his wife. He asks permission to convert a cargo bay into an aboretum. Sisko gives him permission to use cargo bay two, which is falling apart anyway. Back on the Klingon homeworld, D'Gor challenges the council to give him full dispensation, sort of like compensation on Earth. Grilka marches in with Quark and announces that she has temporarily wed Quark to claim her dues. At the moment, the house will be known as the House Of Quark.

Back at Grilka's house, Quark tries to open Grilka's mouth by telling him what's wrong in the house. Grilka admits that her husband's brother was squandering much of their wealth to power his house. Quark gets proof by checking up on D'Gor's financial records and informs Grilka that he will find a way to dishonor D'Gor. Grilka does not want any scheming involved as it is dishonorable. Quark agrees. Back on DS9, Bashir joins O'Brien at the replimat for lunch and notices O'Brien working on the aboretum. O'Brien asks for Bashir's opinion and Bashir states that it'll buy Keiko two months of happiness and then he's back to square one. He tells O'Brien, unless Keiko can become a botanist again, she will never be happy. On Kronos, Quark informs Gowron, the Chancellor of the High Council, of D'Gor's squandering of his fortune. Gowron and his Klingon cohorts seem to have a hard time with the tabulations and formulations. The Chancellor finally breaks down, asking D'Gor if this is true. D'Gor returns with that the Ferengi is a liar and that he can prove that his brother did not die in an honorable combat as many would have believe, but instead died in an accident. He introduces the council to Quark's brother, Rom. D'Gor soon challenges Quark to combat to prove that his brother died in an accident.

Knowing that he cannot beat the Klingon, Rom and Quark try to escape the Klingon homeworld, but is caught. Knowing that he will be killed, he tells Grilka that he would rather run away coward than facing a much tougher opponent. Grilka tells the dishonorable Ferengi to go and even Grilka's insistance will not change Quark's mind. At the council chamber, D'Gor and Grilka wait for Quark. Knowing that the Ferengi will not show up, D'Gor claims full dispensation. Just as he does, Quark and Rom turn up, with Quark carrying a Bat'leth and wearing traditional Klingon attire. Soon, the fight commences, and when it does, Quark tosses his weapon away and kneels to the ground. He insists D'Gor to strike him down and uses the tactic of executing a disarmed man is no honorable than fighting an armed man. Before D'Gor strikes, Gowron halts his advance. Quark is saved by the grace of God and D'Gor is taken away, earning the council's complete dispensation. The council retires. Grilka thanks Quark for what he has done today and asks if there is any way to repay him. Quark replies that he would like a divorce. Grilka slaps him in the face and Quark is now a free man. On the station, O'Brien informs Keiko to join an expedition trip to Bajor, which requires a botanist. He insists Keiko to take Molly along and he'll be fine. He knows that this will cheer up and it does. Meanwhile, business is booming for Quark, but Quark is not entirely happy as he was nearly killed by a Klingon...
